Privacy Policy

Alaska Aurora Forecast is a free reference site for northern-lights forecasts in Alaska. This policy explains what information is collected when you use it. Last updated October 2026.

Information we collect

Very little. The site asks for nothing to use it: no account, no name, no email address, and no location access — you pick a town from the list, and forecasts are computed in your browser from public NOAA and National Weather Service data.

Browser storage

The site stores small pieces of data in your browser's local storage so it doesn't have to re-download the same weather and space-weather feeds on every visit (for example, a town's National Weather Service grid address and a recent Kp forecast, kept for minutes to days). This stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it any time in your browser settings.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies. When advertising is enabled through Google AdSense, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits in aggregate (pages viewed, approximate region, device type). It does not identify you to us personally.

Server logs

Like virtually every website, our hosting provider records standard web-server log entries (requested page, time, browser type, and approximate location derived from IP address) for security and operations. We do not combine log data with any personal identity.

Children's privacy

This site contains no user accounts, comments, or messaging, and is suitable for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
